Authentic Spinosaurus vertebrae Morocco from a River Giant
The Authentic Spinosaurus vertebrae Morocco belonged to Spinosaurus aegyptiacus. One of the longest meat eating dinosaurs ever discovered. It lived during the Late Cretaceous period. Around 95 to 100 million years ago.
Spinosaurus was unlike most large theropods. Its skull was long and narrow. Shaped like a crocodile. Its teeth were cone shaped and smooth. Built to grip fish. Not slice flesh. This tells us it hunted in water rich environments.
During the Cretaceous the Kem Kem region of Morocco was not desert. It was a vast river system. Floodplains. Swamps. Channels filled with giant fish and reptiles. Spinosaurus likely hunted along riverbanks. Wading or swimming in shallow water.
The vertebrae of Spinosaurus were strong and dense. Especially compared to many land dinosaurs. Recent research shows Spinosaurus had compact bone structure. This may have helped with buoyancy control. Supporting the idea that it was semi aquatic.
Spinosaurus is also known for the tall sail on its back. Formed by extremely long neural spines extending from its vertebrae. Some dorsal vertebrae had elongated spines that created this sail shape. The function of the sail is debated. Display. Species recognition. Or body regulation.
This Authentic Spinosaurus vertebrae Morocco specimen shows clear fossil structure. The centrum is thick and solid. Surface texture is natural. With visible bone pattern replaced by minerals over millions of years. Color tones range from reddish brown to earthy tan. Typical of Kem Kem material.
There is minor surface wear as expected from fossilization and recovery. But no major reconstruction. No artificial shaping. The fossil has been cleaned and stabilized only. It remains in honest condition.
The Kem Kem Beds are world famous for Late Cretaceous fossils. Including Spinosaurus. Carcharodontosaurus. And large crocodilians. Sediments date to the Cenomanian stage. About 95 million years old.
