Rooted mosasaur teeth are among the most desirable marine fossils because they retain the complete tooth structure—crown, root, and often the surrounding jawbone fragment—providing a three‑dimensional view of how these apex reptiles fed. Mosasaurs were air‑breathing marine lizards that reached enormous sizes in the Late Cretaceous seas of the Tethys Ocean, and their teeth were continuously replaced, with new teeth pushing up from the root as older ones fell out. Our rooted teeth come from the phosphate mines of the Oulad Abdoun Basin in Morocco, where sedimentary conditions have produced immaculate preservation often with multiple generations of replacement teeth visible in the same socket. The root itself is robust, typically dark brown to black from mineral staining, and exhibits a distinct, rounded base that anchors the tooth within the jaw. For collectors, the value of a rooted tooth lies in its completeness: a fully preserved root indicates that the tooth was functional at the time of death, whereas broken‑off crowns are far less informative. We recommend examining the root for natural cracks vs. artificial glue lines; a genuine specimen will show a solid, uninterrupted root surface. Each rooted mosasaur tooth is accompanied by a certificate of authenticity, confirming its natural origin and Moroccan provenance, and is shipped with careful padding and tracking. Owning such a tooth gives you a tangible link to the mechanics of a Cretaceous apex predator, a fossil that captures both beauty and scientific importance.
