Authentic Carcharodontosaurus Fossil Tooth from a Giant Predator
The Authentic Carcharodontosaurus Fossil Tooth belonged to Carcharodontosaurus saharicus. One of the largest meat eating dinosaurs ever found. It lived during the Late Cretaceous period in North Africa. Around 95 to 100 million years ago.
The name Carcharodontosaurus means shark toothed lizard. That name fits. Its teeth were long. Blade shaped. And lined with fine serrations. Much like the teeth of a great white shark. These serrations helped slice through flesh with force.
Unlike Spinosaurus which focused on fish. Carcharodontosaurus hunted large land animals. It had a massive skull. Strong neck muscles. And jaws filled with cutting teeth. Some teeth reached over five inches long. Designed to tear into prey with each bite.
During the Cretaceous the region now known as the Kem Kem Basin was a rich ecosystem. Rivers cut through wide plains. Forested areas supported plant eating dinosaurs. Carcharodontosaurus likely preyed on large herbivores that shared this habitat.
This Authentic Carcharodontosaurus Fossil Tooth shows the classic flattened blade form. The edges display visible serrations depending on preservation. The enamel is thick and glossy in areas. With natural wear near the tip from feeding millions of years ago.
Color ranges from deep brown to reddish tones. Caused by mineral replacement during fossilization. The root may be partial as common with many recovered teeth. There is minor surface wear. But no heavy reconstruction. No artificial carving.
The tooth has been cleaned and stabilized only. It remains in honest fossil condition. Strong structure. Solid feel.
Carcharodontosaurus was one of the top predators of its time. Larger in length than Tyrannosaurus rex though built more lightly. Fossils from North Africa continue to help scientists understand giant theropods. You can learn more from the Natural History Museum dinosaur directory
