Genuine Carcharodontosaurus Tooth Find from a Shark Toothed Predator
The Genuine Carcharodontosaurus Tooth Find belonged to Carcharodontosaurus saharicus. One of the largest meat eating dinosaurs ever found. It lived during the Cenomanian stage of the Late Cretaceous period.
The name means shark toothed lizard. That name fits the tooth shape. The teeth were long and compressed from side to side. Edges lined with small serrations. These serrations acted like cutting teeth on a knife. Helping tear through muscle and hide.
Carcharodontosaurus had a huge skull. Longer than many other theropods. Its jaws were packed with blade shaped teeth. Designed for slicing large prey. Unlike Spinosaurus which hunted fish. This predator focused on land animals.
Around 95 million years ago the Kem Kem region was a warm river system. Wide floodplains. Forest patches. Rich with plant eating dinosaurs. Carcharodontosaurus likely hunted these herbivores near water sources.
The Genuine Carcharodontosaurus Tooth Find shows classic features. Flattened profile. Sharp front and back edges. Serrations may be visible under close view depending on preservation. The enamel surface remains thick and strong.
Color varies from deep brown to reddish tan. Minerals replaced the original tooth over millions of years. Turning it into stone while keeping its structure. The tip may show natural wear from feeding.
There is minor surface wear from fossilization and recovery. But no heavy reconstruction. No artificial shaping. The tooth has been cleaned and stabilized only. It remains in honest condition.
Carcharodontosaurus was one of the top predators of its ecosystem. Comparable in size to Tyrannosaurus rex though built more slender. Discoveries from Morocco continue to help scientists understand large theropods. You can learn more from the Natural History Museum
